Hola!
Today... I wanna talk about this lovely teenager novel,
Today... I wanna talk about this lovely teenager novel,
ELEANOR & PARK
So..this novel has a very very lovely story line. Love between teenager, 16-years-old Asian boy and 16-years-old redhair girl. It is a light reading material because the story occured in a normal places, no science fiction, no things that were hard to indulge. Hohoho..so I like it!
I am not going to talk about the story plot or whatsoever cause you have to read it yourself to enjoy it completely. Hahaha.. But I just wanna talk about the main character, who was unique and crazy in some ways; Eleanor.
Eleanor was a fat girl with red big frizzy hair. You know... like Merida in the Brave movie, but a bigger version of her. Hoho. She was kicked out from her house by her crazy stepdad for one year and when she returned, she got into a new school there where Park and his friends went. If you look into her life, you will find a really really poor situation. Her house is small and she shared her bedroom with four siblings; a younger sister and three younger brothers. Her brothers slept on the floor. Yep, on the floor. Even the little baby one.😢
Besides she only wore boys' clothes like t-shirt with shirt and tie. She also liked to put clips everywhere on her hair.
Because of her figure, she kept getting bullied by her schoolmates ; horrible words were scrawled on her book covers, her clothes were stolen and others. But she also had two bestfriends, DeeNice and Beebi.
Despite those, Park, who was a cool Asian boy, had fallen into her. When he first saw her, he said to himself that she was weird and crazy. But after he helped her and they both sat together in the school bus, he was attracted by their common similarities and interests. Hohoho.
So they were deeply in love with each other but eventually, they had to be apart cause Eleanor had to move from her dangerous life there. It was a really tragic ending like..what? I thought it will be a happy ending. Huhuhu. Maybe because Park was a Korean guy so the story ended like a Korean drama, where the hero and the heroine were not together. Like Goblin, Love in Paris and others. Chinchaaa...
But but but...
At the end (SPOILER ALERT!), after a year, finally Eleanor sent him a postcard. Park had written her a lot of letters, everyday, but there was never a reply from her. But finally..yass..he got a postcard from her. With her handwriting, just three words long. But when he read that, he smiled and the heaviness he felt took off from his chest.
Unfortunately, the author did not want to reveal the three words to us.😥 She said she wanted us to assume that the three words were "I Love You" so it will be a happy ending. Hahaha. Plus, she said, the characters were only 17 and she didnt believe that 17-years-old get happy endings. They get beginnings. 😊
Oh yeahh..maybe that was a happy beggining for Eleanor and Park, so we will just assume that they will be together at the end of their life. But I dont think that the three words were "ILY" because Eleanor was not a girl who finally sent an ILY postcard after many attempts of trying to write one to him. Maybe it was not ILY, it was something that was more meaningful to them, that gave real pleasure to Park. Maybe the three words were "Take Me Home" or "See You Soon" or "Come Visit Me". Hohoho. What about you? What are your thoughts about the unrevealed thtee words?
Okayhh.. I think thats all. Thanks to Mrs Rainbow Rowell who wrote a sweet, lovely story. Good job!❤❤❤
