Today I wanna review a Japanese live-action adapted from manga, Hepatica. Or well-known as Misumisou or Liverleaf.
Wuhuuu..so this live action is just one episode, so it's worth watching it. It was adapted from manga Hepatica which was published in 2007-2009. Quite old huh? But the storyline is superbbbbb! And the movie was (published?) late April this year.
I knew about this story from my friend (thanks shudd) when she posted it in her WhatsApp status. So seeing how unique and mysterious the synopsis is, I quickly went to find the manga online. luckily it is just 20 chapters so I could finish it in a short time.
The manga, even though the cartoons are not so nice looking, but the storyline is amazing, It was a story about a girl, Nozaki Haruka who moved from Tokyo to a rural area due to her father's job. Then she got bullied in her new school during her graduation year. Till her house was burnt by the bullies and left her parents died in the fire and her younger sister was in a comma. And that was when she lost her last grip and fired back. Go Nozaki go!!
The adaptation was quite nice as they didn't change most of the story although there were some differences. The main actress is beautiful (hohohho) and the other actors are quite good-looking.
So what made me attracted to this story is:
The storyline. It is interesting and the plot twist is so cool! Everyone had their own problems and they did something for a reason. Their life circumstances, their jealousy, their evilness. And the story took place in a winter season which made it cooler. You know..when the bright colour of blood spread on the pure white snow, it gave you some jittery feelings. And what made me even weirder is the reason why the bully happened. It was because they couldn't accept a stranger who just moved from another school to graduate with them. They couldn't accept new people. Lol. And there were many people getting killed but there was no action from the authorities. Like..what??? Maybe this is what living in a rural area looks like.
The characters. All of the main characters were unique and had their own story.
Nozaki, who looked weak and a kind-hearted girl, but when she lost her everything, she became so strong that nothing can prevent her to stop. She didn't care anymore and got her revenge from the bullies.
Aiba-kun, which I liked at first because he was the only one who was on Nozaki's side. When you looked at him, You felt like..ahh, he can take care of Nozaki. BUTTTTTTTTTTT..ahhhhhh... I was disappointed at him at last. The plot twist was just incredible when Aiba had his own secret hidden from others. Devil in angel's suit huh? I thought he was a true angel. T-T
Ogura Taeko, which was the gang leader, well she was the one who started the hatred to Nozaki. She just gave instruction and her underlings did the work. But actually, she was once best friend with Nozaki. She once had a good heart. And when you read/watch the story, you'll know the real reason why she bullied her.
Rumi, the most disgusting and annoying character in this story. Arghh..when I saw her, I felt like wanna kill her. She was also a victim of bully after Nozaki stopped going to school. And that was why she really hated Nozaki and burnt down her house. But it was really annoying to see her alive until the very last. Luckily she died at last. Fuhhh
Nozaki's younger sister, I forgot already her name. Haha.. but she was the only main character with a good true heart that made her different from others. She was innocent and knew when her sister was sad. She was energetic and cheerful and you just like this character so much that you'll cry when she was burnt. Huwaaaaaaaaaaaa
The classroom teacher. She was annoying too like Rumi. She didn't care when her students were being bullied cause she sided with the bullies especially Taeko. But well the bullies were making fun of her. When she was nervous, she would puke due to her trauma being bullied in the past.
The other bullies. Some were heartless but some did the bullying because of their life circumstances. Their bad parents, unrequited love and others. But well that was not a license to bully other people. Cisss. They assumed that Taeko was their leader but to Taeko, she actually hated them cause they kept clinging on her.
And this story is full of murder scenes, blood, violence that will make you puke if you don't have a strong heart. hahahha. But you will feel satisfied when you watch it cause it's a revenge fight. But the sorrowful and the feeling of frightened are just real. When I read the manga, I always wished that Nozaki didn't come out of her house because I was afraid if they did something outrageous to her. Ommooo
So what are you waiting for? Go watch it! But I suggest you to read the manga first because the original is always the best! hahaha This is my first time liking a horror and violence story like this. Do I like murder? NO but it just give me some thrilled feeling to watch it. Miuuu
Oh..so what about the Hepatica? Well..the hepatica actually is a type of flower which the only one remain in the winter season. When other flowers are wilted, they bloom very well despite the blizzard. They look beautiful among the white snow. Aiba-kun liked to photograph this flower and said to Nozaki that she was just like the flower. Beautiful and strong.
So this is why the story attracted my heart, It has lots of hidden stories and secrets that when you found it, you'll feel the jitters.
Btw I'll give this story 8/10. Hoho
